Prof. Eytan Blumenthal serves as the Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus, Haifa.

Prof. Blumenthal graduated from the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology at Hadassah University Hospital.
After completing his residency training, Prof. Blumenthal proceeded to specialize in glaucoma at the prestigious glaucoma center at the University of California, San Diego, under the guidance of Robert N. Weinreb, MD, considered one of the leading glaucoma centers in the USA.

During this two-year fellowship Prof. Blumenthal trained extensively in the clinical, surgical and research aspects of glaucoma. He participated in the care of thousands of glaucoma patients, including some of the most difficult glaucoma cases, referred from all over the U.S., and took part in numerous research projects. He has published a large number of research articles, including in such areas as glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. This experience provided him with a broad understanding and experience that serves as a solid foundation for the Hadassah Glaucoma Service.
Upon return form his glaucoma training at UCSD, Prof. Eytan Blumenthal received a faculty position at the Hadassah University Hospital, and later became the head of the Glaucoma Service. Under his management the Hadassah Glaucoma Service underwent significant changes, including the introduction of new diagnostic approaches and standardized therapeutic routines, technological advancements and a growing glaucoma research team.

In 2013, Prof. Blumenthal was appointed Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus, affiliated with the Technion Medical School.  In this capacity Prof. Blumenthal is investing his time and effort in promoting the healthcare of Israel’s northern population, and is building a department centered on innovation, research and excellence in both surgical and medical care.
