Prof. Eytan Z. Blumenthal of Jerusalem, Israel, invented and developed this new instrument (Katena K3-1124) for dissection of the trabeculectomy bleb pocket.
It features a very smooth round, 2mm wide, disc-shaped tip. This specialized tip design permits the surgeon to gently and atraumatically undermine and dissect the bleb pocket in a way that minimizes fibrosis tendencies of the tissue, thus lessening the likelihood of bleb failure. The tip is mounted on a 21mm shaft for extensive dissection and can be used for fornix- as well as limbal-based procedures. A comprehensive technique CD is supplied with the purchase of each instrument.
